Foundation of Hazratganj Market was laid by Nawab Nasir-ud-Din Haidar Shah in 1827. At that time it was known as Ganj Market. China Bazaar and Kaptaan Bazaar were the two main markets at that time and products from China, Japan and Belgium were sold in those markets. Nawab Amjad Ali Shah changed the name from Ganj Market to Hazratganj Market in 1842. Hazratganj was modelled after London's Queen Street by the Britishers after the First War of Independence in 1857. Hazratganj Market houses the famous Janpath Market, Naza Market, Sahara Ganj Mall, Kashmir Government Arts Emporium, Gandhi Ashram and many more iconic shopping places of Lucknow.
For the youths of Lucknow "Ganjing'' is ambling. Shopping in the wide lanes and bylanes of the city's Ganj Market is a fashion trend for them. For older generation Hazratganj too have the best to offer.
