The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were established on October 25, 2021, just a few months before the start of the IPL-2022 season. The Indian Premier League 2022 will begin on April 2, 2022, and the world will witness the debut of the franchise the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.
The teams selected all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, batsman KL Rahul, and spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi in the first round of the IPL auction. They were the team’s primary public relations representatives. In order to lead the new team, KL Rahul has been named as its captain. As Head Coach of the team, the former Zimbabwean cricketer and coach Andy Flower has been drafted to take over from David Warner. Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian cricketer, will serve as a mentor to the group of young players.
LUCKNOW IPL TEAM NAME
The Lucknow franchise of the Indian Premier League, owned by RPSG Group, decided to keep the team’s name according to public opinion. A contest named “Naam Banao Naam Kamao” was organized, where lakhs of people participated. Based on the names suggested by the public, the team owner chose to keep the team’s name as “Lucknow Super Giants” (LSG).
Some fans were surprised to how the name of the Lucknow franchise is the same as that of Rising Pune Super Giants. The primary reason behind this is that Sanjiv Goenka, owner of RPSG Group, were previously the owner of Rising Pune Super Giants. When Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings got banned from IPL, this Pune-based franchise came to the fore. But as soon as the ban was lifted, both Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Super Giants were disbanded. Many fans of the Lucknow IPL team were not happy and took to Twitter stating that the management would have been more creative while choosing the name. Various hilarious memes were posted on social media platforms, mocking the contest organized.
LUCKNOW SUPERGIANTS (LSG) TEAM OWNER NAME
The franchise is owned by the RPSG group, which is controlled by Sanjiv Goenka. The group was successful in its bid for the franchisee, which totaled over 932 million USD (7090 Crores INR). The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, headquartered in Kolkata, is an international conglomerate. Chairman and Founder Sanjiv Goenka is the driving force behind the organization. He has served as president of the All India Management Institute (AIMA) and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), among other organizations. According to Forbes, the RPSG Group has a net worth of 250 billion dollars. It operates in a variety of industries, including carbon black manufacture, retail, information technology-enabled services, power and energy, media, entertainment, agriculture, and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). Thousands of shareholders and more than 50,000 people make up the company’s total workforce. Goenka has lately risen to prominence as the winner of a bidding war for the ownership of the Lucknow Franchisee. Between 2016 and 2017, the group was the majority shareholder in Rising Pune Supergiant.
LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS TEAM JERSEY
Though the Lucknow Super Giants has revealed its official logo, there are speculations about its jersey. Among these speculations, purple has been chosen as the colour of the jersey, which is much similar to Kolkata Knight Riders. Still not officially revealed, tentative three colours of IPL outfit have been released.

The players of the Goenka led Lucknow Franchise have been roped in the total amount of INR 7090 crores. Andy Flower, Former Captain of Zimbabwe, has been chosen as the head coach, while Gautam Gambhir, former Indian player, has been appointed as the mentor of the team.
LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS IPL TEAM 2022 CAPTAIN
Among the three options, namely KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi, and Marcus Stoinis, KL Rahul has been chosen as the captain of Lucknow Super Giants. As per the auction price, Rahul is being paid INR 17 crores, Ravi Bishnoi is being paid INR 4 crores, while Stoinis is being paid INR 9.2 crores. Ahead of LSG, Rahul and Bishnoi represented Punjab, and Stoinis was with Delhi.

LUCKNOW IPL FRANCHISE
After being a franchisee of Rising Pune Super Giants, Sanjiv Goenka-led RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group has returned to IPL as the franchise of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans in the upcoming IPL season. Goenka, in an interview, stated that according to a numerologist, the term “Supergiants” would not be fruitful. Though he did not consult the numerologist, the team’s name was changed from “Supergiants” to “Super Giants”. Goenka has also invested in various sports, including tennis ball and football.
IPL LUCKNOW LOGO
Ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auction, Lucknow Super Giants revealed its new logo that is inspired by ancient Indian mythology. The logo mainly comprises Garuda – a mythical bird – that is considered as a protector and associated with the power to move swiftly. This bird is present in every culture and subculture of India. The wings in the logo are of tri-colour representing the Pan-India appeal by the franchise. The body of the bird represents an auspicious “Jay Tilak” with a blue bat, red ball, and orange seam. Overall, the logo is designed to reflect positive energy with a spirit to succeed.
