Introduction:

According to library science, libraries are basically classified into 3 categories. First Special Library, Second Public Library and Third Educational Library. Acharya Narendra Dev Library, which was established in the year 1959 with the efforts of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Chandrabhanu Gupta. Initially it used to fall under the category of educational libraries as it was established to provide the required reading material especially to students (graduates and above). The library then used to be in 2-Rana Pratap Marg, a two-storey building on the west side of Motimahal in the Moti Mahal complex. Gradually, in addition to the students, books and other reading materials were made available to the general readers as well. In addition to books, newspapers and magazines of English, Hindi, Urdu were also made available to the general readers in addition to students and Acharya Narendra Dev Library which was originally an academic library as well became a public library. It should be said that Acharya Narendra Dev Library is not only an academic library but also a public library and this library is counted in the primary public library of the city.

Location:

At the time of establishment, Acharya Narendra Dev Library was established at Motimahal, 2-Rana Pratap Marg, which was very close to Lucknow University, so that the students and students of the university could be benefited more and more. But after taking the form of public library, it was established in the revered Chandrabhanu Gupta Navchetna Kendra in the year 1984 on 10-Ashoka Marg in Hazratganj area, considered to be the best location of Lucknow city. Today, this library, established in the name of socialist thinker Acharya Narendra Dev, is located on the fifth, sixth and seventh floor of the Navchetna Center multi-storey building.

Library Membership:

The following 02 types of membership are currently available in Acharya Narendra Dev Library: –
1. Student Membership 250 / Security 150 / – Membership Fee
2. General Membership 500 / Sec 250 / – Membership Fee

In addition to the above 2 categories, a special facility has been provided to the readers in the library in which membership is provided to the readers for a short period of 25 / – (per month basis).

In the year 2014-15, 393 members of the library were created, which are as follows: –
Student Members: 13
General Members: 64
Reading Card: 316

Monthly Members:

In addition to the above categories, a special facility has been provided to the readers in the library, in which membership is given to the readers for a short period of time on the basis of 25 / – per month and according to their needs, from one month to the next, where they are needed. / – By paying to the organization, they continue to increase it. Monthly Membership or Reading Card Members are those members who are created on a monthly basis. These types of readers come to the library to study or study a particular subject or to partially fulfill their research work.
